Indiramma Jeevitha Bima: Telangana’s New ₹5 Lakh Life Insurance Scheme
The Telangana government is set to launch Indiramma Jeevitha Bima on June 2, 2026, as part of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations. The scheme has been announced as a major welfare initiative aimed at providing financial security to families across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka stated that the scheme will provide ₹5 lakh insurance coverage to families in the event of the death of the head of the household. According to the government, nearly 1.15 crore families are expected to benefit from the program.
The government has described Indiramma Jeevitha Bima as a universal welfare-oriented insurance scheme that will be implemented without discrimination based on caste, religion, or economic status. Officials are expected to visit households to collect beneficiary details before full-scale implementation.
One of the key objectives of the scheme is to protect financially vulnerable families from distress after losing the primary earning member. During the announcement, the government referred to difficulties faced by families of deceased farmers in the past and said the scheme was designed to prevent such hardships in the future.

Although the scheme has been described as a “life insurance” program, some official statements also refer specifically to compensation in cases involving accidental death. Because the detailed Government Order (GO) has not yet been released, important aspects of the scheme are still awaited, including:
- eligibility criteria,
- age limits,
- claim procedures,
- nominee rules,
- enrollment process,
- and whether natural death and accidental death are both covered.
The launch of Indiramma Jeevitha Bima is part of the Telangana government’s broader welfare agenda under the “Indiramma” banner, which also includes housing support, free electricity initiatives, and women-focused economic empowerment programs.
If implemented effectively, the scheme could become one of the largest state-backed family insurance programs in India, offering financial support and social security to millions of households across Telangana.
